Being from Kelowna I realize that I am spoiled in that we have an abundance of lakes available for us to swim in and enjoy. Kamloops has the river but honestly as a parent I just cannot let my non-swimming children play along it’s shores without having a small anxiety attack. Maybe once I have been here longer I will feel otherwise but I digress….a lazy Sunday and my daughter and I want to spend the day at the beach.

There are several lakes within a short drive of Kamloops today we chose to head out to Monty Lake. It was roughly a 30 minute drive where we discovered that many other people had the same great idea we did. No problem a quick drive down the side of the lake and short walk later found us at a secluded beach in the woods.

Minus the seaweed(which only bothered me) and the goose poop we had a very nice time. If we were to go back I think I would bring a rake, a garbage bag(to collect other people’s litter), more wipes and possibly my tent!!

We went for a short walk to hunt down some firewood and Rhiannon found not one but two eagle feathers, the things are huge! We built a small campfire to cook our dinner over and managed to cook, eat and pack up then dash to the car before the mosquitoes ate us alive!

* One thing to remember about swimming in lakes is to shower or bathe well afterwards or you can get the occasional duck itch.
