A strong earthy, deep-rooted loving red to represent the parents, and a fresh, soft new-born green to represent the young children (the subtle sage green of Kamloops hills). The red leaves of the logo are the parents: a couple, a mother (pregnant as shown by the 'bump' on the leaf) and a single parent. The children are between them and together the entire Kamloops “family' is centred/grounded by one focal point—family living and unity. As a team they present an exuberant yet simple flower... which speaks to a harmonious life and what true beauty really is all about—our relationships with eachother. The logo also evokes a sense of movement... the action and activity of a family in motion, “doing' things together.

We checked out the Kamloops Provincial Fair this Friday. We picked a terrible day for it. Today would have been gorgeous. However knowing this much we set out in cozy fleece lined jeans, sweat shirts, boots and windbreakers to brave the slightly dismal fall weather. While it was a little cool and a tad damp we enjoyed ourselves as we wandered through the barns and past the corrals. There were lots of animals to see and 4Hers everywhere to ask if they could tell you about their animal while you pet them. We sadly missed the light horse shows for the day but the kids got a kick out of the steer classes! HA!

There was a big tent full of vendors and hiding in the back were fun activities for the kids to do. Rhiannon glued alpaca fur to make an alpaca she could take home. (she wants one, a real one, …did I mention that?) We played lunchtime bingo and talked for a good 20 min to the Kamloops city folks about the new recycling program – I am sworn to secrecy but word on the street is spring 08!

I am so excited about this program. How it will work is that we will all purchase a new bin (there is only one size) with a blue lid. Everything recyclable goes into the bin; all your papers, magazines, cardboard, ALL plastics and food tin. Straight into your bin – no sorting. Oh and NO glass – it breaks and makes a mess of things. The dates keep getting pushed back and I will keep sorting through my landlord’s garbage taking stuff with me to the depots until, what I think, will be Spring 08 – I can’t wait!!

What a gorgeous fall weekend – a chill is definitely in the air and the leaves are slowly turning. We spotted a bunny in butterfly garden at McArthur Island Park this morning. As well as some deer tracks down a bank and along the shore of the Thompson maybe we should start walking earlier so we can spot more critters;) Or not – It is cold enough as it is at 9am!

Ok so this is a kids book but I curl up with a good kids book WAY more often than grown up literature! I was given a book the other day … I added some parts to it and I absolutely love this little story:

Small was feeling grim and grumpy.
“Good grief,” said Large, “how come so frumpy?”

“I’m grim and grumpy,” said Little Small,
“and I don’t think you love me at all.”

Oh, Small,” said Large, “grumpy or not,
I’ll always love you, no matter what.”

“If I were a grumpy grizzly bear,
would you still love me? Would you still care?”

“Of course!” said Large. “Bear or not,
I’d always love you, no matter what.”

“But if I turned into a squishy bug,
would you still love me and give me a hug?”

“Of course!” said Large. “But or not,
I’d always love you, no matter what.”

“No matter what?” said Small with a smile.
“What if I were a crocodile?”

“I’d still hold you close and snug and tight,
and tuck you in your bed each night.

Scaly rough and cold or not,
I’d always love you, no matter what.”

“But does love wear out? Does it break or bend?
Can you fix it or patch it? Does it mend?”

“With time together, a smile and a kiss –
love can be mended with things like this.”

But what about when you’re far away?
Does your love go too. or does it stay?”

“On frozen tundras or sandy beaches which are hot,
I’ll always love you, no matter what.”

“Look up at the stars. They’re far, far away.
But their light reaches us at the end of each day.”

“Where ever I am, near or not,
I’ll always love you, no matter what.”

“It’s like that with love – we may be close, we may be far,
but our love still surrounds us…where ever we are.

You are always in my thoughts,
And I’ll always love you, no matter what!”

Have I mentioned before that I love this park? I think maybe once or twice it may have come up. Or maybe the fact that I am always in it, throwing parties in it or having picnics in it. And this was all before I knew that there was a decent little hike to some beautiful falls right there in the park! A friend showed us the way today and I love Peterson Creek even more now!!

The trail up t Bridal Veil Falls takes about 20 min each way with kids I am sure it is much shorter without them. It is a little scary and treacherous for toddlers but preschoolers would be just fine with a little help. Rhiannon had no problems scrambling up the rock and semi-steep dirt paths. Her friend was a little more cautious (thankfully – my kid is a little haphazard) but he faired just fine on the trails. I carried Arden on my shoulders (yes I paid for it that night with a rocking headache) and did have the chance to let him walk part of the way.

The falls are very very small right now but it is really neat to be able to get right up close and essentially right inside of them. I imagine (and I think the trail is closed in the spring) that in the spring the water fills the little narrow canyon we were standing in right to its brim. Along the trail just before the waterfall is a fairly decent sized cave. It is sort of hard to get up into and if you want to really explore it I would for sure bring a flashlight!! Apparently it goes back quite a ways and then turns and goes back some more.

This park really does have it all. Right in the heart of the city. It was sort of busy yesterday and we even ran into a high school gym class coming to check it out. All the better I say to see people out and about enjoying what Kamloops has to offer.
