With New Years right around the corner I have found myself reflecting on traditions I keep up with my family from my youth and new ones I have created. One of my daughter’s favorites is decorating the ‘winter tree’; we make ornaments of food and hang them with ribbon and string in trees in parks or near our home. See this post for how to make one.

The first snow brought my daughter tearing out of kindergarden her eyes all bright with excitment at the prospect of tobogganing and snowball fights. We are teaching the little kids to skate which is proving an interesting experience and a lesson in their unique personalities. My partner is teaching his eldest daughter how to snowboard which brings back memories of my own days of learning to ski; the cold, the frustration, the pain uggg… But she has stuck with it and the patience of my partner is incredible. The persistance has paid off and she is proving to us that she is amazing and I am so proud of her for sticking with it.

I thought I would jot down a quick list of some ideas to have fun with in the winter:
