My apologies to anyone who went to the wrong location for this session. Â I, also, had the wrong location until the last minute.
For anyone who did not get the chance to hear Dr. Jean Clinton, I will be preparing a review of her amazing workshop and posting it, here, as soon as I can. Â I’ll cross my fingers that I can get her slide show from Kamloops Mental Health and that it is up soon!
Until then remember that you, as the parent of your child, are good enough and that your kids need to feel “felt.” Â They need to know that you love them, that you care about them and that you support them, in all that they do. Â Our brains are continually developing (until we are 18 and older in males) and our environment has a lasting impact on how we develop. Â I believe it was said that 80% of our IQ is determined by our environment. Â Whether we want to believe it, or not, the things that we do (and don’t do) have a lasting impression on our children.
Here is some of Dr. Jean Clinton’s work:
Dr Jean Clinton-School Officer Training “The Teenage Brain”
Dr. Jean Clinton – The First “r” – Relationships
Get out there and make a positive difference in the lives of your children and of the other children around you!!
Have a great weekend!

Posted by Elizabeth as Adventures in Parenting, What's Going on in Kamloops
Hi! Â I’m Elizabeth and I get excited really easily.
Well, maybe not really easily, but… okay, who am I kidding? Â So excited!!
That’s me, laying in the snow and making a snow angel. Â I’ve got my youngest one wrapped on my chest and I’m outside playing with my husband and my two big kids. Â I love my kids. Â They are 4.5, 2 and 4.5 months and they, really and truly, are the greatest! Â That photo was taken back in December. Â What happened to winter, eh?!
I’ve been writing here for a while now…. just sharing my projects and stuff. Â I’ve just come aboard to help out and revamp this amazing resource that Krystal has developed. Â And, let me tell you… I am EXCITED!!
I’ve been blogging on my personal blog for over four years and I have seen lots of great things on this here Internet. Â I have been blessed by some wonderful connections in those years. Â My dream, for the parents of Kamloops, is that we really connect and know that we are a part of a wonderful community. Â We live in a beautiful city and there are lots of great people out there that are working to make our community, our lives, better for us. Â So, let’s do our part and get out there to enjoy it! Â Life life to the fullest. Â Carpe Diem, I say! Â Let’s work together to make the world, in which our children are being raised, an even better place!
Do you want to know what’s coming your way? Â Well, I’m planning that we will have new programs and regular weekday posts starting on March 1st. Â The 1st seems like a good time, doesn’t it? Â So, you can look forward to seeing some great stuff from KamloopsParents.Com! Â Reviews, giveaways and fun family-friendly projects… but I’m getting away from myself already… not until March 1st! Â I told you I was excited didn’t I? Â I’ve got some great people that are joining the team as guest post-ers and have some great perspectives and ideas to share.
For now, what can you do to gear up for the KP re-launch? Â Well, #1 is to join our mailing list to get the newsletter every two-ish weeks. #2 is to login so that you can leave comments and enter our contents (whoops, did I just say that?). Â And #3 is look forward to connecting with the KamloopsParents.Com community and meeting some great people with Kamloops.
I’m thrilled to be working for you and look forward to meeting many of you, at time goes on.
If you have comments, questions, or are interested in getting involved with kamloopsparents.com, just contact me. Â I can’t wait to hear from you!

Never one to be shy about heading out with the kids the other day they wanted me to take them out for breakfast somewhere. It seemed like a fun thing to do so I began calling around to hunt down an affordable breakfast buffet in Kamloops. Which apparently doesn’t exist. The only one I could even find was at the Ramada I think for around $20/person. Since it was going to be one adult and six kids on a limited food budget I opted out of the expensive breakfast buffet and began considering other options (Denny’s not being high on my list).
I nanny for four wonderful children on the North Shore and who happen to live within walking distance of McArthur Island. Since we had on several occasions enjoyed some tasty Press Box fries I figured I would give them a call. It turns out that The Press Box has $5 breakfasts in which you get hashbrowns, eggs, toast and bacon. Perfect.
We walked over and our lovely waitress waited and served me and the six children I had brought along for the meal patiently and with the utmost friendliness. She even came back several times just to make sure our difficult child got a chance to order once he was finally ready. No one in the place balked or seemed the least bit put out by our large family dining out experience and a few folks even came over to say how nice it was to see such a large family.
So the next time you want to take the kids out for breakfast I highly recommend you consider The Press Box in McArthur Island for a family friendly Kamloops dining experience.

Posted by Elizabeth as Adventures in Parenting, Kidz In The Kitchen, Parenting Resources
The kids and I were puttering around this morning and I decided to pull out one of my bajillion “cooking with kids” cookbooks because I want to start a program in Kamloops teaching kids how to cook simple things and thus help out in the kitchen with those skills. Â My sister, is doing a program like that where she lives and I was totally inspired to do one, here.
I found the coolest thing… a muffin mix that you are supposed to be able to keep in the fridge for up to a month! Â Sweet idea, eh? Â That way, when you need some muffins you just pop ‘em in the oven. Â I think it’s a great idea, except that once I went to all the trouble of preparing the mix, I wasn’t about to leave it untasted… so we ended up making a double batch and now I only have one more batch in the fridge. Ah well, such is life.
Here they are, courtesy of “Cooking Wizardry for Kids” and a little bit of modification on my part.
1 15 oz package of Raisin Bran (I worked this out to be about 300g and I used Bran Flakes with a handful or raisins tossed in)
5 cups of flour (I used 2c whole wheat, 1c white, 1/2c wheat germ and 1/2c wheat bran)
2 tsp baking soda
2 tsp salt
4 c buttermilk (or just milk with some lemon juice or vinegar)
4 eggs
1 c vegetable oil (I used 3/4 c oil and 1/4 c unsweetened applesauce)
3/4 c honey or molasses (I used 1/2 c honey and 1/4 c molasses)
1) Mix dry ingredients
2) Mix wet separately
3) Add all together and mix until just moist.
4) At this point you can cover the mix and refrigerate it until you want to use it. Â Or… you can heat your oven to 400 degrees F, spoon the batter into your greased (or silicone/paper) muffin tins and bake for 20 – 25 minutes.

They are a great muffin and the kids liked them, too!! Â I’m looking forward to trying out the batter that I have stored in my fridge for a later date.
