Kamloops Children’s Expo

Saturday, March 20th from 11am to 4pm at St. Andrews on the Square (159 Seymour St)

Admission is by donation with proceeds going to the BC Children’s Hospital.

There will be many local businesses that work to produce items for children.  The businesses that you will be able to find are: Lizzie bits Baby Co., Evolution Photography, Kustom Kribs, Discovery toys, Plush Off, True Amber Jewels, Mama Modesta, Dimple Cheek Diapers, Delish Naturals, Lady Bugz Slings, Kids Tupperware, Dabs And Dots Stamps and More, Bloggy Mama Creations, Kid Smart, Wild about Party Packs, Tiny Blessings Prenatal, Usborne Books, Lil Monkey Bums and Leta Life.

Family Noodle Night

Saturday, March 20th from 4:30 to 7pm at Calvary Community Church (1205 Rogers Way)

This event is the spring fundraiser for the Pregnancy Care Centre of Kamloops.  Tickets are $30 for your family and that will provide you with an evening of fun, family entertainment, a silent auction as well as spaghetti, salad, refreshments, and dessert.  Tickets can be obtained through the Pregnancy Care Centre at 250-376-4646, by e-mailing elizabeth@kamloopsparents.com or from Lizzie Bits Baby Co (#7 – 11 Oriole Rd in Valleyview).

Super Static Saturday

KamloopsParents.Com Astronomy Night!

Tuesday, March 23rd from 6:30pm to 8pm you can come to IB 1019 (International Building) and meet some other Kamloops Parents and Children while checking out the Observatory at TRU.   Colin Taylor, professor at TRU, will be leading a talk about space, showing some telescope images and leading a tour through the TRU Observatory.  This free event is the first of monthly events to be organized by KamloopsParents.Com.  Space is limited so please RSVP to reserve your space to elizabeth@kamloopsparents.com

St. Patrick’s Day is Wednesday!

Green, green, green.  There are so many different ideas that you can think of when you hear the word “green”: the colour, being environmentally-conscious, St. Patrick’s Day, money, shamrocks…

March 17th is the feast day of St. Patrick and a national holiday of Ireland.  Often, people are seen wearing green on St. Patrick’s Day.  When trying to learn more about why that is, I stumbled across the reason given by Wikipedia:   “Originally the color associated with St. Patrick was blue, not green.^[6] However over the years the color green and its association with St. Patrick’s day grew. Green ribbons and shamrocks were worn in celebration of St Patrick’s Day as early as the 17th century.^[7] He is said to have used the shamrock, a three-leaved plant, to explain the Holy Trinity to the pre-Christian Irish, and the wearing and display of shamrocks and shamrock-inspired designs have become a ubiquitous feature of the day.^[8][9] Then in 1798 in hopes of making a political statement Irish soldiers wore full green uniforms on March 17th in hopes of catching attention with their unusual fashion gimmick.^[10] The phrase “the wearing of the green”, meaning to wear a shamrock on one’s clothing, derives from the song of the same name.”
