A strong earthy, deep-rooted loving red to represent the parents, and a fresh, soft new-born green to represent the young children (the subtle sage green of Kamloops hills). The red leaves of the logo are the parents: a couple, a mother (pregnant as shown by the 'bump' on the leaf) and a single parent. The children are between them and together the entire Kamloops “family' is centred/grounded by one focal point—family living and unity. As a team they present an exuberant yet simple flower... which speaks to a harmonious life and what true beauty really is all about—our relationships with eachother. The logo also evokes a sense of movement... the action and activity of a family in motion, “doing' things together.

HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY!!!

This probably wasn’t a smoothie that St Patrick himself would have consumed, however it’s green and delicious, so why not pretend?

Now, using the blender is a fun way for kids to assemble a recipe.  They just need to remember to use safety precautions and not copy Mom when she puts a wooden spoon in the blender while the blender is running. My son loves to push the “blend” button to mix ingredients.  I do too, actually, but most often I try to remember to share the job.

In order to make this kid-friendly, I got the ingredients together, prepped the mango on my own, and then let my son dump them all into the mixer and push the button.  The picture on the left shows applesauce, but I didn’t end up using it, at all.

2cups of plain yogourt

3 bananas

2 mangoes (but not the skin or the pit)*

5 kale leaves (no stem)

2Tb honey

2tsp vanilla extract

Blend and enjoy!

I found this to be nice and thick and, while my blender is on its last (very very very last) legs and the kale was still visible in small pieces, it was totally delicious.

One KamloopsParents reader found this site, also.  Thanks for sharing it!

* Do you know the mango trick?

1) Slice the mango down the center, as close to the pit as you can get.

2) Cut the excess off the pit and peel those pieces.

3) Then, slice a cross-grid in each side of the mango, but do not cut through the skin.

4) Push the mango inside out…

and peel the pieces off the skin – voila!!  No disaster and delicious mango for you, just like that!  You can use your teeth or a spoon to scrape off any yumminess that is left.

** Also, don’t forget to get in on the giveaway from Kustom Kribs.  Leave a comment or e-mail me to get into the draw!!  And, check out the TNRD Library Book Sale all week long! **
