Let it be known that I am a huge fan of details and icing.  Huge.

And, this?

This takes the cake.

I, recently, got to test out a layered birthday cake from Dazzling Delights.  I thought that my testers were it, but the ladies dazzled me with another treat.  I had to share this one, of course.  I couldn’t keep it all to myself, this time.

I showed the kids what we were going to get to savour, then we called up some friends to eat it with us, and we went off to enjoy our day.

A few hours laster, my daughter walked out onto the deck with her mouth full of something.  I opened her mouth and peeked inside.  She gulped the rest of the ladybug and smirked at me.  ”Sorry, Mom.”  I called my son out to see me.  Before I could even ask him, he confessed.  ”Mom, I was just helping her eat the ladybugs because they were so yummy.  I’m really sorry about that.”  Hilarious!  I couldn’t punish them – I would’ve done the same, but I did ask them to save the rest for sharing with our friends.

What a treat, the cake was.  I wasn’t expecting the filling and it came as a super surprise.  So yummy!  Sigh.  Delicious white cake, (a lot like a yummy pound cake)… Creamy and good… coated with buttercream icing and a fondant layer on top.  The little flowers and bug decorations were such a delicious sweet treat.  They added fabulous detail to every plate and were just the right size to cure a sweet craving.  Oh!  I wish there were some left!

The kids (there were five of them) guzzled their slices and asked for more.  Each kid each got to pick off some flowers to eat… Which colour??  My daughter definitely has a penchant for icing (like me) and would try to pick off the flowers whenever my back was turned.  So yummy!!  I liked them so much that I think I might hire the Dazzling ladies to make a bunch of flowers just so that I can enjoy them as a treat, every now and then!

The cake was filling and after two slices, we were full so the last little bit got set aside.  That night, I finished them off.   I admit it… I was sitting on the couch in the quiet after the kids were in bed… eating cake off my lap with a tall glass of milk.

How delightful!
