I don’t quite know how it happened but my son got hooked on trains.  We don’t spend any time watching TV to see Thomas the Tank Engine (is there one?) and we don’t have a lot of Thomas paraphernalia but somehow he got hooked on trains.  Whenever we go for a playdate he beelines for the train table and will not be parted without complaint.  He just loves them!  So, of course, we ended up getting into it with him.  We have a train set and found some Thomas trains second-hand.  We located some Thomas videos and he likes to watch them, on occasion.  We have been given the BINGO game on DVD.  We have found some Thomas stories on tape (well, CD, actually).  We “play trains”; building tracks and routes all over the house.  And the highlight… two summers ago, we went on the Kamloops Heritage Train.

“The Spirit of Kamloops” is a restored 1912 Steam Locomotive that delights all ages with its 70-minute run of the Kamloops railway lines.  Starting at the Lorne St location of the CN Heritage Station, it travels out across the river and along past the church on the reserve to turn around and head back to the station.  The train ride concludes with a visit from some historical figures on horseback coming aboard the train looking for gold!

“The Spirit of Kamloops” runs tours that are family-friendly and very enjoyable!  We loved our experience seeing the beautiful hills of Kamloops from a different perspective and will certainly be going, again, this summer!  Spirit of Kamloops tours happen Monday and Friday evenings at 7pm and Saturday mornings at 11am.
