September already?  Sure is!  With the older ones heading back to school, and routines being re-established what’s a mom to do with the little ones who are not yet school bound?

A quick search of facebook delivers several informal parent baby/toddler meet up groups.  But if you are looking for a bit more structure and programmed content, the City Of Kamloops has many recreation programs available.  A recent streamline of the under 6 programs has seen some programs change names, but the programs are still the same, with the same friendly faces, and a few new facilitators leading the groups.  Programs include physical activity, songs, stories and rhymes, art activities and free play.  Family Frolics and Grandfun with Grandkids are caregiver participation programs that welcome children from birth to 5 years of age.  There are a variety of programs that cater to specific age groups and interest areas.  New this year is a pilot project offering programs in the early evenings and weekends as a response to parent feedback.  For more information, pick up an activity guide, or check out www.kamloops.ca for more information and registration details.  Fees vary with each program.

Another great program is the Mother Goose programs put on by the Interior Community Services KELLI (Kamloops early language and literacy initiative) Groups are scattered throughout community schools and other various locations.  Mother Goose is a caregiver participation program in which facilitators lead participants through songs, rhymes and finger plays.  Program schedules are expected to be made available soon, so check www.interiorcommunityservices.bc.ca for a list of locations and times.

So whatever you chose to do with your younger children as summer comes to a close, enjoy the time with your little ones, it just flies by doesn’t it?
