Wendy, mom of an adorable one-year-old shares this quick workout idea…

Quick exercises for any moms who would just like a little more tone in their legs:

1. Do some squats while: brushing teeth, eating breakfast, making dinner, talking on the phone, looking in the fridge at yummy food, cleaning up toys, checking your email, playing angry birds on your iPhone (not that anyone has time for this), arguing with your spouse, standing in line at the bank or while you write love notes for your children’s lunches…basically fill in time that you are sort of just standing or sitting.

How do you do a squat you say? Well you can always Google it…I’d Google a women’s squat or if you mostly know what you’re doing here are a few things to remember:

  •  Bend your knees to roughly 90 degrees
  • Brace your core / maintain the natural arch in your low back
  • Keep your heels down
  • Maintain neutral chin / head alignment
  • Keep your upper back engaged and neutral

2. Do some lunges while: pushing a stroller, walking to the bathroom, putting laundry away, mowing the lawn (if your grass is REALLY beautiful your neighbours will think you have a special mowing technique), grocery shopping (you know when you are walking up and down aisles looking for dinner ideas), walking to your car (you can pretend you are are just measuring the parking lot when a stranger walks by)….or maybe we will all start doing this and it won’t look weird because everyone in Kamloops is doing it so we can become efficient with our workout time.
