This summer I had the pleasure of being introduced to one of Canada’s great unknown artists. Some of you may have see Danny Michel open up for Stuart McLean’s Vinyl Cafe Road Show a couple years ago. Seems Stuart was onto something because a short time later David Suzuki picked the title track of Danny’s album for his ‘Playlist for the Planet’. The album was entitled Feather Fur and Fin and I now own an autographed copy of it.
My daughter has been listening to it extensively lately and it has made some successful rounds in our car. He is a magnificent poet with lyrics that paint a picture and tell a story which translates to children well.
A few of our favorites from this album are:
We liked him so much that I bought his most recent album Sunset Sea on iTunes as well. Our favorite songs from that one are:
I also really like ‘A Whale of A Tale’ really fun song from the album Fibsville and if you catch a show he always has a great story to go along with it though I wouldn’t really recommend Danny to a G-rated audience he did slip more than a few curse words into the show.
There you have it.
Danny’s bandcamp page lets you preview the whole album so have a listen, turn it up and see what your family thinks. My favorite time for introducing new music (other than the car) is while I’m making dinner.
