No Christmas music for you this month. Instead I am pulling out a reggae album that will whisk you away to the beach and leave you feeling warm and fuzzy while the cold winds blow outside. It may even inspire a geography lesson on the whereabouts of Jamaica which is where our artist hails from.

Family Time is a reggae album by Jamaican born artist Ziggy Marley, yes he is the child of Regae icon Bob Marley. Ziggy doesn’t exclusively make children’s music which is probably what makes this album so enjoyable to listen to. The lyrics and melodies are simple enough that after a few listens your kids will catch on and be sure to let you know what their favorites are. The album is full of guest appearances by well known artists such as Willie Nelson, Jack Johnson, Paul Simon and Elizabeth Mitchell (whom I reviewed here).

Admittedly one of my children’s favorite parts of the album are the stories at the end recorded by Jamie Lee Curtis which don’t really follow suit with the rest but none the less they still seem to have won the hearts of my kids. My personal favorite is probably Wings of an Eagle with Family Time coming a close second. It’s a great upbeat and positive album that in 2009 was at the top of several best kids music lists.

A great way to introduce the whole family to reggae music, Family Time carries on the rasta spirit of love and unity. Happy Listening.
