Book: The Crunching Munching Caterpillar
Illustrator: Jack Tickle
For Ages: 2-5
Where to Get it: This book is available to purchase in store or online at Chapters; and online at Amazon.
This book was a gift to my now 18-month old, on her 1st birthday. Of course, my four-year old loved it and now that her little sister will sit still for more than two minutes, she’s starting to enjoy it too! Just in time too, since Spring is right around the corner, and this book evokes wonderful images of Spring!
Caterpillar longs to have wings of his own, just like the other creatures in nature – the bumblebee, sparrow… but especially the beautiful butterfly! He “crunches and munches” leaves and watches them soaring in the air. But his friend, the butterfly, knows a secret and tells Caterpillar to take a nice, long nap, and he does. After his long, deep winter sleep, Caterpillar awakens to find he’s transformed into a beautiful butterfly as well!
A great book to read with younger children, as they will love the bright color illustrations and older kids will learn how caterpillars transform into butterflies.
This author also wrote Little Turtle And the Song of the Sea.
