Glitter Mask

What to do on these rainy days with energetic little ones?!?!   Create a mask and let their imagination soar!  My daughter and I found this creative mask-making craft one rainy day while we were flipping through a kids craft book I have.  We had a blast picking out the best princess colors for her mask and then scouring the craft room for gems, jewels, beads and whatever else we found that would help in creating her unique mask.  This craft project has endless possibilities on creativity, which helps to bring out the imagination in any child of any age.  We made this mask on a whim, however, I started thinking of all the possibilities with these masks…great for birthday parties, super-hero adventures, Halloween costumes, mascaraed balls, butterfly fairies and much more.

Materials

Strong paper (thin paper will tear)

Pencil

Scissors

Hole Punch

Ring reinforcements or eyelets

Glue

Glitter

Elastic Cord

Embellishments

Directions:

  1.  Draw the outline of your mask onto your piece of paper or fold the piece of paper in half and draw half of the mask outline onto it.
  2. Cut out the mask.  Cut out eye holes and punch holes on the side of the mask for the elastic band to go in.
  3. On a clean surface, such as a plastic table cloth, apply glue all over your mask and sprinkle on all your colored glitter.  This is where the creativity begins.  You can use one color, multiple colors, make designs with the glitter or even shapes.
  4. After the glitter has dried you can then add embellishments if you wish.  We added beads and sequins to ours but you can also add beads, feathers, jewels, pipe cleaners, etc.
  5. After your entire mask is dry, attach the elastic string at the end of each side of your mask.  I used eyelets to secure the elastic band to the holes but you could also use ring reinforcements or sticky tape.

Now you can allow your imagination to take hold!  My daughter was so proud of her mask that she wore it all over town that day while we ran errands!
