Title:Â Otto the Book Bear
Author:Â Katie Cleminson
Otto was a book bear.
He lived in a book on a shelf in a house…
and he was happiest when children read his book.
But Otto also had a special secret.
Otto, the book bear, is happy when children read “his” book. However, when no one is looking – he leaps from his book and goes exploring! Then, one day, the family that he lived with moved away, leaving him and his book behind. What does Otto do? He heads out into the BIG world to begin a new adventure. After a period of time trying to discover the best place for him to live, he finally finds a library…and another book bear! Once again, Otto finds new readers, and that makes him a very happy bear.
Age group:Â 3 to 7 years of age
What’s To Love:Â
The sweet, simple story and the resilience of Otto as he tries to find a new home. The delightful artwork consisting of a plain white background and thick, dark contours filled with very light shading. As we read the book, I could see my 4 year old looking up to his bookshelf, hoping to stumble upon his own “book bear”.
Where to Find It:
We picked up this book on our last trip to the North Kamloops Library. Both my 2 and 3 year old love listening to this story and examining the illustrations. It is also available online at Chapters.ca and Amazon.ca.
