One day, my 3 and 5 year olds enjoyed so many hours of intense activity in the hot sun that they decided the best way to spend the last remaining minutes until dinnertime was to be inside our house, building with LEGO.
I love how each time the buckets of LEGOs are emptied to be played with is a new adventure, and this time was no exception. The usual building of vehicles and foundations quickly gave way to an improvised “math game” of sorting and counting for my younger child with some simple addition led by my older one.
My son began stacking bricks of similar size and colour and counting off “one brick plus another brick means TWO bricks, right Mummy!” and so on as the numbers increased.
It was a fun, quiet time activity and I enjoyed watching them discover math concepts all on their own.
We got our 650 piece LEGO kit at Tumbleweed Toys a few months ago and love that you can build whatever you want with them, the sky really is the limit!
Do you have a large assortment of LEGO bricks? What other ways have you used them?
