Our family took part in the North Face Dirty Feet Snowshoe Fun Run/Walk at Stake Lake last Sunday. It was our second year participating in this fun 5km event on the snowshoe trails maintained by the Overlander Ski Club and the conditions were excellent!
We were greeted with a beautiful, sunny morning and plenty of fresh powder when we arrived at Stake Lake that day. Vehicles and drivers generously provided by River City Nissan shuttled us (and all of our gear!) from the parking lot to the location of the start of the race.
I raced with our 6 year old, while my husband stuck to the back with our 5 year old as she tends to check things out at a much slower pace. My son kept up the pace by chatting with me throughout the race, singing songs and even surprising me with periodically running 10 second intervals!
When we finally arrived at the finish line, it wasn’t long before my son and I realized that he was about 20 minutes faster than last year’s time! Time to celebrate the little guy’s accomplishment so we set out for the table filled with post-race goodies. As usual, the Dirty Feet crew put out a great spread, which included banana bread from Caffe Motivo, hot apple cider and a wide selection of gummies and jelly beans.
I swear he shared this cup of treats with his little sister….or at least I hope he did!
It was a great day for our family, as my husband and I got to spend some one on one time with each child, a rarity as we are usually all together or solo parenting the two of them. Plus, we spent it outdoors, doing something we all enjoy.
