Last Sunday, over 360 participants ran in the first North Face Dirty Feet Trail Run of the season in the Batchelor/Lac Du Bois Grasslands Park.
It was the second year in a row that our entire family has participated in the 5km event and the kids were far more engaged this year!
My husband ran with our six year old while I ran with our youngest. It was a little chilly at the start of the race for the little one, but it quickly became comfortable enough for her to shed a layer. The rain that threatened to fall before the race never materialized and all of us racers enjoyed the calm weather and dry terrain.
My daughter ran/walked the entire way, stopping only to take off Continue reading Hitting the Trails with Dirty Feet
Our family took part in the North Face Dirty Feet Snowshoe Fun Run/Walk at Stake Lake last Sunday. It was our second year participating in this fun 5km event on the snowshoe trails maintained by the Overlander Ski Club and the conditions were excellent!
We were greeted with a beautiful, sunny morning and plenty of fresh powder when we arrived at Stake Lake that day. Vehicles and drivers generously provided by River City Nissan shuttled us (and all of our gear!) from the parking lot to the location of the start of the race.
Of course, we took the customary pre-race photo before we set off on our snowshoeing adventure as a family, along with just under 100 other participants!
I raced with our 6 year old, while my husband stuck to the back with our 5 year old as she tends to check things out at a much slower pace. My son kept up the pace by chatting with me throughout the race, singing songs and even surprising me with periodically running 10 second intervals!
When we finally arrived at the finish line, it wasn’t long before my son and I realized that he was about 20 minutes faster than last Continue reading Kicking off the 2016 Dirty Feet Race Series with the Family
It’s no secret, our family LOVES snowshoeing and the conditions in Kamloops this season have so far been fantastic!
One beautiful bluebird day last week, our family drove out to Stake Lake, hopped on our snowshoes and made the 2.7 km trek around the Lake trail, operated by the Overlander Ski Club.
We started right at the parking lot and began our trek around the lake in the clockwise direction.
One reason why we like this trail is because it is a loop and if one of our children have had it before reaching the halfway point, then we simply turn around and return to the parking lot.
Not sure how long it took us, but it took us a lot longer than usual as our 5 year old had to check out just about every single beautiful hoar frost pattern on the bushes within her reach.
The kids also really enjoyed the drawings of animals on cross-country skis that we found on the trees.
To get there from Kamloops, take exit 366 and follow Lac Le Jeune Road south about 22 km. Snowshoes can be rented from either the Overlander Ski Club or Runner’s Sole in Kamloops, BC. Make sure that your family is properly dressed for the conditions and prepared before heading out, with a backpack loaded with snacks, water, a first aid kit and a fully charged cell phone (there is cell phone coverage at Stake Lake).
The cost to snowshoe on the trails at Stake Lake is $4 per adult and free for children. Remember to ask for a map of the snowshoe trails at the ticket booth or check out the large map at the parking lot before you head out!
Don’t forget to take pictures!
It’s been 4 years since Sabrina Sinclair and her team at Fit By Design began helping women on their wellness journey in Kamloops.
I myself embarked on that very same journey back in the fall of 2012.
The main reason why I keep going back? The fun and supportive atmosphere.
