I also agree. I wanted a midwife when I was pregnant with my first son but there were none in Kamloops at that time. I went to the Maternity Clinic and, although it was fine, I was never totally happy with the experience. My pre-natal visits seemed pointless- five minutes max, a combination of peeing in a cup, taking my blood pressure, and listening for the heartbeat. When I became pregnant again, my first call was immediately to the Midwifery practice. I got in to see Rosalynd, and found the prenatal experience much more enjoyable. As Rosalynd was on vacation when I delivered, Joanna and Elaine attended my birth at home. After the birth my husband and I were blown away by how much better this birth experience was - we were so calm and happy, and were able to hang out in our own environment, eating what I wanted, when I wanted. Joanna and Elaine stayed at our home for a few hours and cleaned up everything before they left. Then our new family just spent the day in bed, relaxing. It was great, and so much better than my hospital experience. When you figure that midwives are shown to offer better birth outcomes than physicians (http://www.cmaj.ca/content/181/6-7/377.full.pdf), are less expensive on our health care system, AND free up physicians for other medical issues in this age of physician shortages, it seems like a no-brainer to me to opt for a midwife, at home or at hospital.

I could not agree more! Joanna was my midwife (is my midwife, always will be) My daughter actually turns 1 this week!! The midwives here are not only professional and talented, but friendly, loving, amazing women! I feel blessed that they are part of our community! :)
