Join us in our studios on Saturday, May 27 to meet Toronto-based artist Hazel Meyer, learn about her art practice and participate in a hands-on workshop led by the artist.

We will begin with her artist’s talk at 12:00 pm, have a short break to mingle and enjoy a light lunch and then at 2:00 pm, Meyer will lead a hands-on workshop:A banner, a tee-shirt, some oranges and sweat: installation and performance for everyone.

This workshop will use the art practices of installation and performance as a way of exploring the relationship and tension between sports and art. Through this workshop, Meyer will present various skills such as banner-making and painting, tee-shirt altering, performance for non-performers, sports for non-athletes, and how to mine these practices for new ways of moving and being in the world. The workshop will propose ways of using materials and our bodies to meaningfully take up and occupy space. No experience is necessary and all materials will be provided.

Hazel Meyer is an interdisciplinary artist who organizes large-scale, object-oriented installations and performance works that draw from archival research, subcultural ephemera, activist aesthetics, handmade tools and athletic tropes. She holds degrees from Concordia University and OCAD University, and is presently based in Toronto.

Meyer’s work Intestinal Anarchy is on view in the exhibition superyoung until July 1, 2017.

Space in the workshop is limited, please register by phone at 250-377-2400.  Registration is not required for the artist’s talk. Participants may choose to come only to the talk or the workshop, or both.
