Lovingly told in black and white, WEIRDOS is a witty coming-of-age drama set against the backdrop of rural Nova Scotia in 1976. In a bid to add some thrill to their tiresome small-town day-to-day, 15-year-old Kit (Dylan Authors) and his companion Alice (Julia Sarah Stone) secretly scheme to ditch Kit’s dad (Allan Hawco) and hitchhike to visit Kit’s mother (Molly Parker) in Sydney on Cape Breton Island. As they thumb their way across the stunning maritime landscape, the pair encounter a cast of ancillary characters who test their friendship in unexpected ways. Their journey is peppered with imaginary check-ins from Kit’s idol, Andy Warhol (Rhys Bevan-John), as he and Alice are eventually faced with the reality of his mother’s situation, and that of their own.
