Family Time: Games

My husband and I really enjoy playing games together and with friends.  Board games.   Some of our favourites are Robo Rally, Settlers of Cataan, Pandemic, Bohnanza and Ticket to Ride.  They are a great way to spend an evening with friends, discussing life, kids and just having a good time together.  As the kids have grown up watching us play games, they have learned them, too.  We love games, and now, they do too.

We have an entire shelf devoted to games that we can play with our kids.  There are some that we love and play over and over, then others that I have been known to avoid playing (you know what I mean, right?). Labyrinth is one of the classics that I can play over and over and never tire of.  The box says 7 years and up, but my four-year-old understands the strategy and can figure out how to reach his next objective with only a few moves!  We’ve had the game since Christmas and I can’t believe the improvement that I have seen in his ability to watch what is happening on the board and decide what to do next.  Sometimes, he even shows me something that I am missing!  I love it when he says “M-om!  You just need to do this to get to the ______.  Here, let me help you.”

A Wild About Party Packs spring-time idea

By Candace of Wild About Party Packs

The sun is shining and the bulbs are blooming. Do you have a child ready for a birthday this Spring? Are you tired of planning the usual party with whatever is “in” at the moment?

More than just a "Yum Bum": Delish Naturals Review

Recently (like really really recently), I got to test out the Yum Bum Butter from Delish Naturals.

What’s the first thing I did when I got it?  Why, open the can and take a whiff, of course.  And “Delish” is right.  The “LoveSpell” fragrance smells so good I wasn’t sure I wanted to put it on my baby’s bum.  But, I did.  And, I am glad that I did.  Smooth, not gucky, no greasy residue and no greasy white fingers!!

Thoughts on Down Time

Since having my third child I have discovered something essential to my day: “Quiet Time”.

Every day after lunch, my daughter goes to her room for her nap, my son goes to his room to read books and I try to get the baby down for a nap, too.  This, occasionally, results in a little bit of time to myself.  Sometimes I get to use that time to clean up the mess from lunch, or go on the computer for a bit, but usually it results in quality one-on-one time with one of the kids.  If the baby does go down for a nap, I’ll get to hang out with my four-year-old for a bit… just us, or if he is agreeably reading in his room for a while I will get to really connect and play with my baby while my two-year-old sleeps.

Having that time with just one kid, or none that need my immediate attention, has really given me the ability to clear my head and feel Continue reading Thoughts on Down Time
