POWER OF BEING A GIRL 2017 TO BE PART OF YMCA CANADA’S WEEK WITHOUT VIOLENCE FESTIVITIES

Each year during the third week of October, Canadians bond with people in over ninety countries around the world to mark YWCA’s Week Without Violence. A week-long series of community events promotes diverse approaches to creating a violence free world. More than 9,500 people in schools, workplaces and neighborhood organizations throughout Canada recognize this annual violence prevention initiative aimed at making violence a thing of the
past.

As part of the YWCA Canada’s commitment to violence prevention initiatives for girls and young women, Power of Being a Girl is a signature violence-prevention conferences for girls between the ages of 12 and 14 hosted during the Week Without Violence. The YMCA-YWCA Women’s Emergency Shelter’s 5th Annual “Empty Toy Box Project” Underway

The YMCA-YWCA Women’s Emergency Shelter’s 5th Annual “Empty Toy Box Project” is underway, running August 1st to August 31st.

The Y Women’s Emergency Shelter is in need of NEW toys and gifts to give the children and youth who stay at the Shelter. Often children need to leave their most precious items behind and sometimes their stay is over birthdays and holidays –  it’s a wonderful thing to receive something special during a difficult time in their lives.

Don’t know what to give? Think of what your own child wanted for Christmas or – GIFT CARDS are a perfect gift!
