Canada Day Craftin’: Crafting with Kids

Canada Day is nearly here (or maybe, by the time you read this, it is Canada Day!).

My little crafters wanted to make decorations to celebrate the day in style so this is what we came up with.

Nothing too off the wall (in fact some of it is on the wall) but fun nonetheless.

Chocolate Play Dough: Kidz In The Kitchen

Play dough is awesome, don’t you think?  You can let the kids messy and then if you leave it on the table and the floor for long enough, it’s a super easy sweep to clean it, too!!  Just kidding.  But yes, playdough is awesome.

Sometimes we look for something a little different for our play dough routine.  Those moments call for a little google and then a little experimenting.  I’ve wanted to try chocolate play dough for a long time.  This weekend, we gave it a whirl.  Whirl is right!  After tasting and playing, my head was spinning.  So, WATCH OUT, this play dough is suuuper sweet!!

Crafting With Kids

Tamara Vukusic, of Spark Story Starters fame, brings you this wonderfully fun post.

Warning: This activity involves dumpster-diving (or at least a little poking around in the back alleys of Kamloops).

My boys love their Zhu Zhu pets.  As one of the few toys from China that has stood the test in time in our home, I have become a fan of them too.

But have you seen the Zhu Zhu Fun House? Tree House? Baby Gym? Day care? Hospital nursery? Kung Zhu Battle Arena? That’s where I draw the line.

So here is where I introduce the re-purposed Zhu Zhu World (‘re-purposed’ is a new-fangled world that refers to something once considered garbage that has redeemed itself with a new use).  And, if your tolerance for mayhem is high, you may be willing to let Zhu Zhu World morph into Zhu Zhu Skateboard Park and eventually Pac Zhu Zhu (a.k.a. Pac Man for Zhu Zhu Pets).

This good, wacky fun is guaranteed to occupy your kid(s) for an afternoon.  Here is a recipe to get you started.
