French Language Summer Sports Camps at Thompson Rivers University

Canadian Parents for French – Kamloops, with the Thompson Rivers University Athletics Department, are excited to announce the 2014 French Language Summer Sports Camps.

There are two weeks of camp: July 7 to 11 and July 28 to August 1. They are intended for children entering grades 1 to 8 in September 2014. Each week has a Junior Camp and a Senior Camp, in French. Junior Camps are filled with many sports, and games. New this year, the Senior Camps will have a Soccer Focus with other fun activities. Both camps will have special activities not found in other TRU sport camps.

Egg Carton Lilies: Crafting with Kids

We were walking around the back yard one day last week, talking with the kids about what plants had already come up and which ones were about to emerge. One of them about to emerge were my yellow lilies, here is a photograph of them in bloom from last summer:

Summer Camps at River City Gymnastics

After the longest winter ever, we could not be more excited for summertime at River City Gymnastics! Each day includes gymnastics, outside structured and unstructured play, crafts, field trips and lots of games!  Field Trips will take place approximately between 11:00-2:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Most field trips will be taken by school age only. Kamloops transit busses are our mode of transportation. Our participant’s ages range from 3-11.  Please bring a water bottle, healthy snacks, and a bathing suit.  We ask that your little one is potty trained.

Ridiculously Easy Pizza Birthday Cake

My son recently celebrated his 5th birthday.  When I asked him what he wanted to eat for his birthday, he replied “PIZZA!”

So what kind of birthday cake did I make for him? A super easy Pizza Birthday Cake!

How did I do it?

First I whipped up a batch of vanilla cake batter. I no longer have any cake pans in my possession, so I used two cast iron pans. I placed them in the oven to heat up, then took them out and poured the batter in. The best part of using the cast iron pans? It produced cakes with a “deep dish look” for the pizza.

Next, I took a tub of icing and used red and brown food colouring paste to tint it a “pizza sauce” colour. Lots of trial and error but I finally managed to get it just right.

Then, I slathered the icing on top of one of the pizzas:
