Cirque de la Symphonie: Exciting Circus Acts Choreographed to Orchestral Music

Kamloops Symphony’s final performance of the season is an exciting adaptation that brings the magic of the circus to the music hall on Friday, May 8 and Saturday, May 9 at Sagebrush Theatre, 7:30 pm.

Cirque de la Symphonie is a traveling circus group that pairs circus acts and orchestral music together. The act started in 2006 and has amazed audiences all over North America. The circus acts are professionally choreographed to classical masterpieces and popular contemporary music.

The performance includes aerial flyers, acrobats, contortionists, dancers, jugglers, balancers and strongmen. The circus acts work in collaboration with the conductor.

Just Drop it All & Play With Chalk

One afternoon, my 4 year old briefly interrupted my train of thought with “come chalk with me, Mumma?”

The request came at an extremely busy time in which I was trying to accomplish three things at once. I paused and formulated a response in my head, such as “Mummy’s busy right now, leave her be so she could get this thing done before picking up your brother from school.” However, I decided that in order to improve my rate of productivity that afternoon, I would have to take the time out for a little bit of de-stressing. So I grabbed some chalk, took my daughter’s hand and headed out to our wonderfully long walkway out front.

After a few games of Tic Tac Toe, I decided we’d play a game involving letters. First, I wrote out the alphabet:

Next, she decided to trace and circle each letter while repeating the name out loud.

Finally, we played the game that we just made up.

The game involved taking turns lining up on a line behind the letter “A” with a ball and rolling the ball towards a specifically chosen letter.  For example,  she would call out “K” and try to roll the ball so that it would stop as close as possible on the letter “K”.

Kamloops Symphony Orchestra’s last Chamber Music performance of 2014/2015 this Saturday, April 25

The final Chamber Music performance of Kamloops Symphony’s 2014/2015 season will be at TRU Alumni Theatre on Saturday, April 25.

Chamber Musicians - Bach to the FutureKSO Chamber Musicians Catharine Dochstader, Flute;
Cvetozar Vutev, Violin; Ashley Kroecher, Viola; Martin Kratky, Cello; and Dimiter Terziev, Piano are set to perform. Their program, called Bach to the Future, features the creativity of Bach and the influence of Baroque style in contemporary compositions.
