Kamloops to Host Award-Winning Concert Band from Holland

Winkler Prins Harmonie is an award-winning concert band formed bystudents, teachers and alumni of the Winker Prins Veendam school in Veendam, Holland.  They have toured and participated in music festivals in Switzerland and Hungary, and recently in Liberec in the Czech Republic.  They toured in Western Canada previously in 2000.  Winkler Prins Harmonie formed in 1977.  As part of its fortieth anniversary celebration, the band is touring Western Canada with stops in Maple Ridge, Kelowna, Kamloops and Alberta.  Their repertoire covers a wide variety of genres, including arrangements of film music, musical theatre, pop and classical music and, traditional band music.  These highly skilled and entertaining musicians will impress lovers of wind ensembles with their polished musicianship.

The Middle Island off the coast of Australia is home to hundreds of little penguins. Unfortunately, foxes have found the island and are drastically reducing the number of penguins. As the population shrinks, the Island stands to lose its penguin sanctuary status and is
set to become a whale watching spot for tourists. In the hopes of saving their seaside town, Swampy, an eccentric chicken farmer, teams up with his granddaughter to train their mischievous dog, Oddball, to protect the penguins. Once the population stabilizes, the success is quickly dampened when Swampy cannot find Oddball on the Island.
