CONTEST ALERT: A pair of tickets to giveaway to Western Canada Theatre's production of Mom's the Word: Nest 1/2 Empty….
From the world-renowned creative team behind the Mom’s the Word series comes a new chapter in their stories of family, fun and fracas. Their kids are grown, their marriages have “evolved,” and their bodies are backfiring. Life may not get any prettier, but it never strays far from ludicrous or poignant, as the moms continue to mine their personal history for every uproarious and embarrassing detail. Filled with insights, secrets, and ribald humour.
Western Canada Theatre is proud to present the Arts Club Theatre Company production of Mom’s the Word: Nest ½ Empty at the Coast Kamloops Hotel Theatre, from March 28 to Friday, April 5.
Celebrating the incredible success of the Mom’s the Word series, director Wayne Harrison says, “This group of women changed the theatrical landscape, not just in Canada, but on several continents. Last year alone, productions toured in Scotland, Germany, and Canada.”
First conceived in 1993 by a group of Vancouver actors who had become “exhausted, bedraggled, amateur mothers,” Mom’s the Word became an immediate hit. The first show premiered at the Arts Club in 1995, with the moms sharing their experiences of new parenthood. Then, in 2005, Mom’s the Word 2: Unhinged chronicled the good, the bad, and the ugly of raising teenagers and the moms’ own aging. In the latest instalment, Mom’s the Word: Nest ½ Empty, the moms recount the trials and tribulation of adult children. Featuring rocky relationships, parenting mishaps, and AquaFit crushes, the moms are back and ready to talk about it all. The moms say it best: “We gotta keep going, so we may as well laugh while we can!”
WCT is excited that Kamloops’ own Robin Nichol, who is also a professor of Theatre Arts at Thompson Rivers University, is one of this creative team performing on our stage, an enjoyment shared by Robin: “The Moms the Wordshows have been an amazing ride. We have connected with moms all over the world and realized that the experiences of being a mother, and having a mother are universal. And now I’m delighted to be doing Nest ½ Empty in my now hometown of Kamloops, to share this with my neighbours, and because for the first time in over two decades I get to do the show and sleep in my own bed!”
Because of the on-going structural repairs at the Sagebrush Theatre, please note Mom’s the Word: Nest ½ Emptywill perform at the Coast Kamloops Hotel Theatre, starting March 28.
And as it will close Friday, April 5, the second Pay-What-You-Can Matinee will be on Wednesday, April 2, at 2:00pm (the first PWYC matinee remains on Saturday, March 30 at 2:00pm).
