Chimera Theatre is Bringing Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein back to Life!

Chimera Theatre is proud to announce the mainstage production of their 2017/2018 season: Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, adapted by Andrew G. Cooper!

Frankenstein presents the tragedy of young Victor Frankenstein and the grotesque monster who haunts him in this new adaptation of Mary Shelley’s spine-chilling Gothic classic. Victor is obsessed with discovering the secrets of science and nature, but nothing can prepare him for what he brings to life one dark night in the heart of winter. So begins a life or death adventure as Victor battles the demon he creates and the demons inside himself.

We are very happy to be working a splendid mix of new and familiar local artists on this production. Our cast features a host of faces that you will recognize from past shows, including Brooke Ballam (seen last season in Knights of the Sun and The Disordered Mind), Terry Roth (who had his Chimera Theatre debut this season in The Witness), as well as Josh Sunderman and Todd Sullivan (both of whom were in last year’s mainstage show Mockus) and Taran Waterous (who has been in both of our productions of Knights of the Sun). Brendan Law is making his debut in the Chimera Theatre season, but has been a member of our improvised comedy troupe The Freudian Slips for the past year. Jade Blair, Karra Brotherton, Quentin Clark (who Kamloops audiences will recognize from Western Canada Theatre’s Mary Poppins and A Christmas Carol), and Laine Gilles are all making their performance debut with our company and we couldn’t be more excited!

Helping to bring this haunting tale to life is a hugely talented team of artists behind the scenes. Following his direction of The Witness and Knights of the Sun last year, the show is directed (and adapted) by Andrew G. Cooper. Our company’s Artist-in-Residence Emily Thibert joins the production as the assistant director. The set was designed by Jared Raschke (designer of Mockus, SuperZeroes, and The Untold Tales of the Brothers Grimm) and the lights are by Todd Sullivan, who is making his design debut with the company with this show. All the music for the show is done by composer/sound designer Lukas Vanderlip and the makeup is designed by Hailey Griffith, both of whom are also working with us for the first time. After costuming clowns (Mockus) and knights (Knights of the Sun) last year, Susan Dixon returns to us as costume designer. Other favorites to return with this show are Morgan Benedict as stage manager and Joel Feenstra as scenic artist.

The World Premiere of Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, adapted by Andrew G. Cooper runs February 28th to March 3rd, 2018 at the Pavilion Theatre with show times at 7:30 pm.
