Deadline for new Peter Collins Memorial Fund Bursary Aug. 31

Students with a passion for music are encouraged to apply for the Photo 19 (2)new Peter Collins Memorial Fund Bursary by the end of this month. The bursary, in memory of Peter Collins, a beloved music teacher and tenor singer, was created to assist students residing in the Kamloops/Thompson School District #73 area to access music lessons through the Kamloops Symphony Music School.

The memorial fund, administered by the B.C. Interior Community Foundation, was started after Peter Collins lost his battle with cancer in 2015. The music school, along with the Collins family, announced that applications were open for the memorial fund bursary just one year after his passing.

Numerous donations were made by friends and family members in his memory, following his death, including a donation by the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group’s Emerging Musician Fund, as well as a matching grant by the Department of Canadian Heritage Endowment Incentives Program. These generous donations have made it possible to award the first bursary for the 2016-2017 school year.

The bursary is intended for students 18 years and under residing in the area served by the Kamloops/Thompson School District #73. Bursaries will be awarded to students who show a passion for music, but who may not otherwise be able to take music lessons.

Peter Collins was known for his dedication to his students and always worked to ensure his students were successful in their music education. This annual bursary will be awarded from income on the donations in the memorial fund, ensuring that the annual amount will be available forever.

The application deadline for the Peter Collins Memorial Fund Bursary is August 31, 2016. Those interested in applying can find the application at
