Join us in our studios with Victoria-based artist Kerri Flannigan for a Queer Storytelling through Stop-Motion Animation workshop.
Participants in this two-part workshop will explore using short stop-motion animation as a way of sharing personal experiences from queer perspectives.
On Friday, March 16, participants will learn about different ways of telling stories through art and engage in activities that explore themes of how our intersectional identities (such as race, age, gender and sexuality) impact how we experience different places.
The second part of the workshop, on Saturday, March 17, will focus on the creation of a short stop-motion animation based on the stories generated in the first part of the workshop using drawings, photographs and cut-outs. This part of the workshop will provide an introduction to and demonstration of both the technical and conceptual aspects of creating a video frame by frame. This workshop will emphasize Do-it-Yourself techniques and suggestions for how to work with whatever equipment you have access to. Participants will learn several approaches to animated techniques in an improvised and collaborative setting.
This workshop will center queer experiences and voices but everyone is welcome to attend.
New, beginner and experienced animators welcome! All materials (and some snacks) are provided. Registration is not required, but you can reserve your place by calling the Gallery 250-377-2400.
This workshop is offered through our youth programs, After School Special and Picture This!, and is generously sponsored by the Edwina and Paul Heller Memorial Fund. Visit our website kag.bc.ca for program dates and details.
As always, you and your ideas are wonderfully welcomed. If you are interested in getting involved with KamloopsParents.com simply email email@example.com and we can chat!
