Nursing In Public. Does anyone else find it funny that the acronym is N.I.P.?
When you have a hungry breastfeeding baby, it just becomes a reality for many Moms. I know that I am not the only Mom who raised my infants with the “if you are hungry I will feed you” mentality. As our infants tend to dominate our actions when Mom is the only one that can meet their mealtime needs, our infants can definitely control where (and when) we go out! Kamloops is a fantastic community for families and so in an effort to support BFing Moms out there, Mighty Oak Midwifery and KamloopsParents.Com are joining forces to bring you a Breastfeeding Friendly Kamloops Directory.
You can look forward to it being linked in our directory, in the near future!
Until then, Kamloops Parents, it’s up to us to build it!! Where have you felt that you were welcome to nurse? Are there places in Kamloops that have space for Moms to have a seat (change a diaper) and feed their little one? The goal of this directory is not to put down those businesses that have not yet come to realize the value in providing comfort to Moms with young babies, it is about THANKING those businesses that are putting themselves forward as a business that is accommodating and supportive of parents with young babies that need to feed and change their little ones).
A few months ago, I put the word out to see if we could begin to put together the names of places that are breastfeeding friendly and here’s what we got…
- Well I don’t know exactly but every time we’ve eaten at Flavours of India
- the art we are….my daughter and I eat there often 🙂
I have breast fed in White Spot, Denny’s, Montana’s, Red Robins, and Nandos
Amsterdam (the place in Valley View)
Restaurant at Zellers is definitely BF friendly.
Alive and Well Massage Therapy Clinic- pre- and post-natal massage and infant massage are offered, so of course we encourage the little ones to snack 🙂
Sears is great. They have a BF’ing room that has a rocking chair, sink and changetable.
I know this isn’t in town but for those going to Kelowna the Orchard Park Mall has an awesome BF room with a small kids bathroom, toys, and games for slightly older siblings. The only way in is with a key from customer service.
Hot House Bistro! They even have a sticker on the window by their door to indicate that they are breast-feeding friendly.
Walmart used to have a nice comfy chair in the baby section….maybe it wasn`t meant for nursing but I used it!
Never had any problems at Swiss Pastry Shop downtown. Staff is also very accommodating with kids (strollers, etc.) and have always had a great attitude toward them being there, which is pretty cool given that the place is pretty tight quarters.
Aberdeen Mall has an awesome family washroom. It has a BF chair like the hospital one.
Let’s keep it building! If you have positive nursing experiences in a local business, please let us know! Email email@example.com or comment on this post to help us build the directory!
