Create & Move: Your Very Own Dice Game!

Paint. Chalk. Movement.

Sounds like a writing prompt exercise, but it’s actually a craft and game for your child all rolled into one! I first saw it on Growing a Jeweled Rose and thought that it would be fun to try with my kids.

First, you need to create the dice. They would need to be big enough to write action words and numbers on them. The ones pictured below are simply gift boxes that I bought at a craft store.

Next, you need to decide whether you would want to be able to change the words or keep them permanently. We have used markers on plain white boxes but the best idea is to use chalk board paint, such as Growing a Jeweled Rose did! That way, the kids can change up the game whenever they want.

Finally, I wrote on the different faces of dice #1: crab walk, crawl, hop, slither, run and skip. On dice #2, I wrote numbers on each of the faces corresponding to how many seconds the kids were to perform each of the activities that resulted from them throwing the dice.  For example, this throw resulted in my 4 year old having to do a crab walk for 5 seconds:
