We Kicked-Off Summer at Sun Peaks!

Our family was long overdue for a weekend getaway.

So last weekend we packed the car, locked up the house and a short drive later reached our weekend destination of Sun Peaks Resort. An annual tradition for our young family, we celebrated the Summer Kick-Off Weekend, where our ultimate goal was a weekend of activities for the whole family, along with great food and some relaxation time.

Soon after arriving in the alpine village, we were promptly greeted to a roving performance of Tickles & Yowza, much to the delight of my 5 year old. He got right in there, gleefully dancing and shaking the maraca they had lent him. After some time dancing and laughing, my son insisted that we head up on the Sunburst Chairlift for our very first Sun Peaks hiking adventure of the season.

Alpine Hiking Adventure at Sun Peaks

Myself and three other moms (with 12 kids between us ranging from 3 weeks to 10 years of age) decided we wanted to experience a mountain adventure in the summertime.

We didn’t have to fly anywhere, take a ferry or ride in a car for very long. We went out on an alpine adventure literally in our own backyard, less than an hour from us, at Sun Peaks Resort.

We met up at Guest Services to get our hiking passes as well as important hiking maps (printed flora/fauna guides are also available). Then we set out for the Sunburst Chairlift to take us to the top. Taking children on the chairlift was a breeze. There were two lift operators to assist people on the chairs, and they also slowed it down significantly and helped the younger ones up onto the chairs. No more than four people at a time are allowed on the chairs, and that includes lap-babies.
